I survived the Tahoe Tough Mudder, but better yet, I had a great time with friends during our weekend in Tahoe. If you are considering doing a Tough Mudder, I would definitely recommend it. It’s a team based obstacle course / 11 mile run. Athletically, it wasn’t super challenging, but mentally it was hard. You push some of your limits by jumping into a dumpster filled with ice water and/or getting shocked by 10,000 volts of live electricity (see post here that details my freak out about these obstacles). Tahoe was a super challenging place to do the Tough Mudder. The course was set up at North Star Ski Resort, right outside of Truckee, CA. The most challenging part of the 11 mile course was the hills, which seemed to go on forever. They were literally straight verticals up and straight verticals down. This definitely proved to be difficult for our team, most of whom had not trained quite like we were supposed to!
My favorite parts of the course were the Monkey Bar obstacle (called the Funky Monkey) and the Mud Mile (which is similar to how it sounds). But far and away the best part was having some really good friends drive up from San Francisco to Tahoe to cook dinner for those of us who completed the obstacle course.
I am really proud of myself for doing this literally the week before I get married. If my future hubby and I can do a Tough Mudder a week prior to getting hitched, we can do anything, right?! On a side note, good thing my gown is long because I have some really nasty bruises.
A few other pictures from our weekend adventure in Tahoe are below. A quick SO to my friend LJ/ her parents for lending us their beautiful Tahoe home for this past weekend and to those that I signed up without them knowing or peer pressured into doing it. Also, a few Truckee recommendations (from when we were not walking up hills for days) for your enjoyment are also below.
Recommend the Maggie's Farm Vegan Sandwich on gluten free bread (roasted red bell pepper, grilled zukes, marinated eggplant, and pesto with Steve's balsamic sauce topped with lettuce, tomato, and caramelized onion) or The Wolfman's Brother (roasted turkey on a dutch crunch roll -- or gluten free beer -- with jack cheese, roasted chilies, avocado and chipotle aioli topped with lettuce, tomato, and onion)
Recommend the Honey Lemon Shoshito Peppers, Portabella Mushroom with Creamed Greens, and the Bacon Mac and Cheese (although, this comes on recommendation -- I was trying to stay in wedding dress shape so I didn't try a morsel of this one!)
Great coffee and bagels in the morning (Avocado, Pesto, and Hummus bagel sandwiches are favorites!)
